Press Release: DESIGNBLOK

Designblok is the annual week-long exhibition of new pieces from the world of design.

It takes place in selected showrooms, boutiques, and galleries situated all over Prague.
Visitors to Designblok ´08 had an opportunity to see works at 83 participating venues.

The Designblok Supertudios, which are open for one week during the festival, represent the centre of the accompanying programme. Regular visitors to Designblok know that the Superstudios were, in the past, located in such locations as the former brewer’s villa of the Holešovice brewery, the dockyards, Karlín factory halls, the River Diamond new building, the DOX Gallery of contemporary art and architecture in Holešovice, and the Corso Ia office building in Karlín.

The accompanying programme in Superstudios offers:
- Designers’ Catwalk – the largest exhibition of designers at the festival
- Crème de la crème – a prestigious exhibition of design companies
- Designblok Fashion Week – fashion shows that are an annual part of Designblok

The eleventh year of the Days of Design in Prague – Designblok´09 – will take place from October 6 to October 11, 2009.

From the 7th to the 12th of October 2008, visitors to the 10th edition of The Days of Design in Prague, Designblok ‘08, were able to see more than 101 events all over Prague that were organized by 77 participating companies, 37 fashion designers, and almost a hundred designers, design studios, schools, and galleries. All of the events were held at more than 80 different locations all over Prague. This year, there were a record-breaking number of participants: 202. The main locations were the Prague city districts of Holešovice, Karlín, Nové Město, and Staré Město. This year, these locations were named “Designblok Zones.”
The novelty of the 10th edition of the festival was Designblok Fashion Week, a new and separate part of the festival that met with extraordinary interest from fashion designers and the general public.

Visitor Numbers:
Records were set for not only the total number of participants of Designblok, but also the number of its visitors. The program, which took place all around Prague, was visited by over 32,000 people. The accompanying program, located in Superstudio Dox and Superstudio Corso, was visited by 18,000 people. In addition, Designblok Fashion Week was visited by over 4,000 people.
