New cycling paths in Prague

23.9.2019 — Prague councillors have agreed to support the financing of the project preparation and partial creation of new routes for cyclists and pedestrians in northeast Prague. Districts 14, 18, 19, and 20, as well as Čakovice, Satalice and Vinoř, will plan to connect existing cycle paths by slightly adjusting field roads and third-class roads to create a unified and efficient network.

Special admission to the National Technical Museum

30.6.2019 — As part of its hundredth anniversary celebrations, the National Technical Museum is offering reductions on admission prices on Thursday, the 5th of July. The museum is the largest Czech institution that specialises in technical collections, and it was founded on the 5th of July 1908 as the Technical Museum of the Bohemian Kingdom. Currently, its collections are in 14 permanent exhibitions and a number of temporary exhibitions.

Music Walks on Sundays at Prague Zoo

14.6.2020 — 'Hudební vycházky' (Music Walks) are outdoor classical music concerts which take place in Prague Zoo in front of Gočár's Houses. After fourteen successful years, the event has become a traditional part of summer at the zoo. Not only animal lovers, but also classical music fans, will be at the zoo every Sunday until the beginning of October. The open-air concerts will take place once again in front of Gočár's Houses at the top of the zoo for two hours on Sundays. More and more music lovers seek out the event for its informal setting and quality music.

29.6.2020 — Střelecký Island ('Střelecký ostrov' or simply 'Střelák' to the locals) in the heart of Prague not only offers scenic views of Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, and romantic walks in the shade of mature trees, but has also become a place for free outdoor public dancing in recent years. Many dance programmes and workshops take place on a pontoon that has been anchored to the island for several years, offering an additional stage and dance floor. Popmuseum tells the history of musical co-operation between Czech and Slovak artists

14.1.2019 — Until the end of February, you can visit an exhibition about the history of 'Czecho-Slovakian' music in Popmuseum, a museum and archive of popular music. The country of Czechoslovakia existed under different names from the Declaration of Independence on the 28th October 1918 to its peaceful dissolution on the 1st of January 1993. However, the music scenes of the two countries stayed closely linked even after the common republic ceased to exist and that is why the exhibition rightly celebrates the hundred years of this 'musical relationship' of Czech and Slovaks. A permanent exhibition is located in the Cultural Centre Kaštan in Břevnov, featuring musical instruments, particularly electric guitars of Czechoslovak production and selected keyboard instruments used in former Czechoslovakia. Furthermore, there is an archive of sheet music and recordings that is available to researchers.

The Epiphany in the streets of Prague

Visit the popular Náplavka Farmers’ Market on the Vltava riverbank

24.2.2020 — 'Náplavka', meaning riverbank, refers to the embankment of the Vltava River between Palacký Bridge and Railway Bridge in Prague 2, a place where farmers' markets have regularly been held for 11 years. Even though it is not the largest in the Czech capital city, the market is unsurpassed with its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, which is one of the reasons that it is one of the most popular markets in the city. Horror exhibition in MeetFactory

21.7.2020 — TOO HOT by Eva Jaroňová is the first post-pandemic exhibition in the MeetFactory gallery in Smíchov. Eva Riebová, the Kostka Gallery curator, had to cancel the Indian artist Afrah Shafiq's exhibition due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, she was given the opportunity to seek out a Czech artist and discovered Eva Jaroňová, who participated in the Kostka Gallery's open call in the past.

Vítkov exhibition commemorates the journey to Latvian independence

23.9.2020 — The National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill hosts an exhibition 'We want to be free, we will be free!', which is dedicated to the establishment of the independent State of Latvia. The exhibition will be open in the Ceremonial Hall until the 4th of October.

29.6.2020 — On the 2nd and 3rd of July, Studio ALTA will present 'How Things Go', the first joint project by the newly formed duo Felix Baumann (DE) and Sean Henderson (US/ CH). Baumann and Henderson brilliantly combine dance, physical and visual theatre. In 'How Things Go', the two performers' encounters with various objects cause a chain reaction, which inevitably leads to chaos. However, they do not give up or lose their sense of humour, and the audience laughs with them. Witnessing such creative yet futile efforts makes you think of comedians like Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and the Czech animated slapstick pair Pat & Mat.

Prague celebrates St. Patrick's Feast Day in style

16.3.2019 — Prague is preparing for greater St. Patrick's Day celebrations than ever before. The main attraction will be the festive parade on Sunday the 17th of March, which begins and ends in Campus Hybernská, where the other main celebrations will be held. According to the legend, Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, converted the people of Ireland to Christianity in the fifth century.

Cars on Smetanovo Embankment to be replaced by beer gardens and terraces

22.5.2020 — Following in the footsteps of great cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, New York and Berlin, the city of Prague is planning to create more public space for pedestrians. The first new pedestrian zone will be created in part of the Smetanovo Embankment ('Smetanovo nábřeží'). Car traffic towards Křížovnické Square near Charles Bridge will go through Divadelní and Karoliny Světlé streets instead.
