Seventh Science Festival will take place in Dejvice
The theme of Science Festival 2019 is science in professions. Science Festival ('Festival vědy' in Czech) is a joint project by universities, academic and leisure institutions. It will take place on the 4th of September this year.
The popular science festival is a continuation of fairs that have been taking place in and around Dejvice Campus since 2011. It is actually the largest open-air laboratory, where experts and university students from various science and technology disciplines present and introduce both children and adults to science through practical demonstrations all day long.
Young Engineer at CTU
One of the largest exhibitions will be prepared by Czech Technical University in Prague, the festival’s co-organiser. All eight of the university’s faculties will have interactive displays in tents. They will introduce some of CTU’s interesting current projects, visitors will see various experiments and will have an opportunity to play the game "Young Engineer".
Charles University Workshops
The oldest Czech university - Charles University - will also participate. It will give demonstrations of simulations used by medical students, a variety of exciting experiments, workshops and practical demonstrations about their four main scientific fields of study - biology, chemistry, geography and geology - and their application.
Firefighters and robots
Practical applications of science will be demonstrated by the Fire Rescue Service of the City of Prague’s chemical unit. This unit deals with situations such as carbon monoxide detection, suspicious smells, dangerous shipments, illegal drug laboratories, and the pollution of waterways - in some cases associated with the death of fish. And they even use robots for their work.
Musical academic
There will even be a concert as part of the accompanying programme. At the National Library of Technology, the Czech Academy of Sciences chamber orchestra, Komorní orchestr Akademie Praha, will perform Beethoven and Mozart. Currently this orchestra is one of the most visible ensembles on the non-professional symphonic scene in Prague.
