Gallery Weekend Prague draws attention to exciting art for the third year in a row
From the 26th to the 28th April 2019, nineteen galleries will take part in the third annual Gallery Weekend Prague.
Apart from individual exhibitions, the galleries will offer their visitors guided tours, and discussions and meetings with artists and curators. The event is inspired by the annual Gallery Weekend Berlin. Like Prague, Berlin is a city full of interesting art and monuments, and art lovers look forward to Gallery Weekend Berlin for the whole year. Gallery Weekend Prague is not as established yet, however, this event, which aims to attract the public’s interest in art, will surely please its visitors.
Artwall Gallery and ‘Everyday Sexism’
The Artwall Gallery, which is located on the retaining wall of the Letná Park at Kapitána Jaroše and Edvarda Beneše Embankments, is certainly worth a visit. Because it is a public space, it is always accessible and is one of the most visited Czech galleries. Of course, that is also given due to the nature of the gallery in public, ensuring accessible interaction for everyone. Currently, the Slovak artist Ivana Šáteková has an exhibition entitled ‘Everyday Sexism’ on the gallery wall. On Saturday the 26th of April at 4PM, there will be a workshop related to the exhibition. It will start with a guided tour of Ivana Šáteková’s work, followed by a visual art workshop, where participants will be able to articulate their personal experiences with everyday sexism. The meeting point is at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Holešovice.
Improv, reading and concert in Alta
In Studio Alta, there will be several interesting events on the 26th and the 27th of April. For example, on Friday you can watch a popular improvisation evening, where musicians, dancers, actors and visual artists come together to connect their art in one improvised performance. There are two great events on Saturday: A reading from the book ‘Material Fatigue’, based on the current refugee crisis, by the author Marek Šindelka, holder of the Jiří Orten Award and two Magnesia Litera awards for prose. Later in the evening, there will be a concert with the guitarist Tomáš Holý in Alta. On the 27th of April, the opening of a photographic exhibition will take place in the gallery. The exhibition, entitled ‘Living Realities II’ also deals with the refugee crisis, war, and seeking freedom.
