‘Laboratory of Living Sentiments’ at Meet Factory

Until the 8th of September 2019, there will be an exhibition of videos, 'Laboratory of Living Sentiments' by the Polish artist Magdalena Lazar in the Kostka Gallery. The themes of the exhibition are sentiments and memories. The artist Magdalena Lazar was born in Poland in 1986. She works with animation, video, photography, installation and objects. Her favourite themes include the present versus the past, the experience of a lot of change over a short period, and initiatives related to a post-growth economy.

Roses and immortal sentiment

In the exhibition ‘Laboratory of Living Sentiments,’ Magdalena Lazar uses a formal means characteristic of advertising and relaxation materials. With these, she creates a three-channel video that is an idyllic and hyper-realistic visualisation of an attempt to forever preserve what seems to be doomed to be ephemeral. The rose, as a symbol of transience, futility, but also eternity, plays the main role in the video screened in the Kostka Gallery.

Preserving what is fleeting

It is actually a love story that at that time moved the young girl towards an extraordinary experiment. She preserved, conserved and immortalised a white rose given to her by her beloved forever so that it can never wither.

“I didn't want to dry it, I like living sentiments,” says the artist. She had a simple recipe for a chemical compound, which the object is to be infused with.
